During my recent trip to Milan I stayed with LaGare Hotel Milano Centrale, a newly opened MGallery Accor property. Located just a short walk away from Milan’s central train station, this hotel is ideally placed for exploring the city and surrounding areas.
We arrived slightly earlier than the standard check in time but we didn’t have to wait and were given access to our room straight away. I like it when the staff give you a run down on where all the facilities are located but we didn’t really get that here. However, they were always happy to answer any queries we had throughout our stay.
Our suite was quite spacious with the bed, lounge and desk in separate areas. There were two LED TVs in the room (one in front of the bed and the other in the lounge area) but we never got around to using these during our stay. The bathroom was equipped with a large rain shower and twin sinks. There was no bath tub in our room but apparently some of the suites do have one. Complimentary bottles of water were provided on the first night which always gets a big thumbs up from me. WiFi in the room was free, fast and reliable.
The spa is open daily from 5:30pm to 11:30pm. Since it has only been open for a few weeks all the facilities are impeccable. The relaxation area provides a generous selection of fruit, tea, biscuits and juice. The pool is stunning and is set to the perfect temperature. I’m normally not a big fan of indoor pools but this is easily one of the best I’ve used at any hotel. There’s also a gym, salt cave and an incredibly hot sauna. I’m not sure if many guests even knew about the facilities – its hidden away downstairs and the staff never mentioned it to us, I only knew about it because I had researched the hotel before our arrival. We visited the spa twice but only saw one other guest there.
We left dinner a little late on our first night in Milan but the hotel restaurant happily accommodated us even though the kitchen was closing. I can’t really comment on the atmosphere since there wasn’t really anyone else dining in the restaurant at that time but we were both impressed by the food.
The hotel has a roof bar on the 13th floor which I had wanted to visit but unfortunately it was not open during our stay (a staff member informed us its only open during the summer months).
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with LaGare Hotel Milano Centrale. The staff were always willing to accommodate our requests and gave us a fantastic recommendation on where to go for dinner on our second night. It is rated as a 4 star hotel but I would say this was just a good as some 5 star hotels I’ve stayed at in terms of service and facilities. It’s certainly a lot more affordable than other 5 star hotels in Milan! I would be happy to stay here again on a return visit to the city.
