Things have been a bit quiet on the blog this month. Work has been crazy busy and I’ve just returned from a ski trip in Austria, but I thought I’d get back into the swing of things by wrapping up all the highlights from 2015. I try to write one of these posts every year as I really enjoy looking back on the things I’ve done.
Biggest personal achievements
On the first day of January 2015, I skied my first ever black run! I also did a couple more black runs during another ski trip in February. My skiing has definitely improved a lot since living in Europe.
In July, I passed my CBT and became a licensed scooter rider - something I never would have predicted at the start of 2015! I’m loving the freedom of having my own wheels but haven’t had any chance to ride for the last month or so due to the miserable weather.
One new country
My aim is to visit at least one new country every year and this year was my first time visiting Malta! The weather was perfect the whole week and I loved our time there. My only regret, aside from a SCUBA diving mishap, was that we didn’t stay for longer.
Two new cities
I returned to Italy for the first time since 2012 and visited Milan over the first May bank holiday weekend. I didn’t find Milan to be as exciting as Rome or Venice but it was still worth a visit.
In October I travelled to Porto in Portugal and enjoyed it immensely. I even liked the port tasting and I am not really a wine drinker!
Bucket list achievements
In January I finally visited Neuschwanstein Castle which has been on my bucket list for a long time. It really did look just like a fairytale!
For my birthday this year I went for afternoon tea at Claridges which is widely regarded as the best afternoon tea in London. I wanted to try it for myself to see what the fuss was about and yes, it did live up to the hype.
I visited the Sky Garden when it opened in January. It’s a fantastic viewing platform and I’m definitely going to take my family here when they visit during the summer.
In April I was lucky enough to win two tickets to the watch the London Marathon from the Tower Bridge viewing platform. It was great to see so many people in London turn out to support the runners and the Tower Bridge was the perfect spot to watch the action.
Exploring the UK
One of my goals for the year was to see more of the UK. I picked up a National Art Pass and an English Heritage membership this year which have motivated me to explore some beautiful properties in and around London. I also took a day trip to Stratford-upon-Avon and visited Highclere Castle, the real-life Downton Abbey.
Most popular blog post
I’ve published 60 blog posts this year and I was surprised to see that my post about the mistakes I made at Oktoberfest got the most views. Hopefully other people are finding this helpful and will avoid making the same mistakes I did.
Most popular instagram photo
This was actually a throwback post to my trip to Santorini in 2012. The town of Oia is so photogenic it’s hardly surprising that this was my most-liked photo this year.
I hope you have had a great 2015! What are some of your highlights from this year?
