A visit to Schönbrunn Palace was top of my list of things to do when I visited Vienna last year. I had heard it was modelled after the French Versailles, and given how much I enjoyed my visit there, I was determined to visit its Austrian rival. Getting there The Palace was easy to get to via the Underground train network. Take the U4 line get off at Schönbrunn. From the train station it is roughly a 5 minute walk to the Palace entrance...

A look back on 2015

Things have been a bit quiet on the blog this month. Work has been crazy busy and I’ve just returned from a ski trip in Austria, but I thought I’d get back into the swing of things by wrapping up all the highlights from 2015. I try to write one of these posts every year as I really enjoy looking back on the things I’ve done. Biggest personal achievements On the first day of January 2015, I skied my first ever black run!..

Skiing in Zillertal: Hintertux, Austria

As I mentioned in a previous post, my boyfriend and I spent a few days skiing in Hintertux, Austria earlier this month. It was never in our original plan to ski here as we were staying in Mayrhofen and thought we would just stick to the local slopes there. It wasn’t until we arrived in Mayrhofen that we realised how easy it was to access Hintertux (and also free for skiers with a Zillertal Valley ski pass) so we decided to give it a go and we’re so glad we did!..

Skiing a black run in Austria!

My dad taught me to ski at a young age but up until a few weeks ago I had never dared to attempt a black run (expert level). While skiing in Hintertux, Austria, I was unknowingly lead onto a black run by my boyfriend and didn’t even realise until I’d already gone about a quarter of the way down (he did this on purpose, knowing I’d never agree to it if he told me beforehand)...

Skiing in Zillertal: Mayrhofen, Austria

Our last ski trip was to Les Deux Alpes in February. Unfortunately we were a bit let down by the ski conditions there so we decided to try somewhere different for our News Years trip. The week between Christmas and New Year is the most expensive time to book a ski holiday so we were slightly more constrained by our budget. After searching accommodation options across multiple resorts we settled on Alpendomizil Neuhaus in Mayrhofen, Austria...

Looking Back: 2014 in Retrospect

At first I wasn’t sure if I would write this post, as I felt like I cut back on traveling a little this year (mostly to do with the amount of time and money I had to invest in getting a new UK visa). But as I started looking back on blog posts and travel photos I was pleasantly surprised to see that I’d still managed to take quite a few trips...

The Sound of Music Tour in Salzburg

My mum is a huge fan of The Sound Of Music so I grew up watching the film and memorising the songs. When I booked a last minute trip to Salzburg, visiting filming locations from The Sound Of Music was at the top of my list of things to do. Before flying to Salzburg I booked a place on the Gray Line Sound of Music Tour. There are multiple tour operators who seem to run similar itineraries but the Gray Line tour is the original and their bus company (Albus) was involved in the making of the movie back in 1964...
