When choosing our accommodation in St Moritz we had a firm idea of what we were looking for. We wanted to be within short walking distance of the ski lifts, somewhere with excellent amenities but not prohibitively expensive. Art Boutique Hotel Monopol ticked all those boxes for us. Check in Upon arrival at St Moritz train station we were greeted by our transfer driver who loaded our luggage into the car and whisked us away to the hotel...

I’ve recently returned from a week long ski holiday in St Moritz, Switzerland. It was my second time staying at this resort, although my first visit was pre-blog so I never wrote a post about it. I’ve got to know St Moritz fairly well now so here’s my guide to skiing at this resort… About St Moritz Located in Switzerland’s Engadin valley, St Moritz is the oldest winter sports resort in the world...

23 July 2016
image from 5 things to do in Geneva

Last month we travelled to Geneva for the briefest of visits, staying only one night and around 36 hours in total. Despite the limited time we had and the damp weather we experienced for the majority of our stay we still tried to fit in as much as possible. Here are five things we got up to while in Geneva: 1. Take in the views from St. Pierre Cathedral Climb the cathedral’s two tall towers for 360 degree views over Geneva...

Chillon Castle Day Trip from Geneva

16 July 2016
image from Chillon Castle Day Trip from Geneva

Chillon Castle was a must-see for me during our recent trip to Gevena and despite the miserable weather I was determined to make it happen. Situated at the opposite end of Lake Geneva, Chillon Castle is about an hour outside the city of Geneva but is easy to get via public transport. There are a few different routes you can take to get to the castle: Take a train from Geneva to Lausanne, then change trains to head to Veytaux-Chillon...

June Re-Cap: Geneva, Cornwall and visitors from Australia!

image from June Re-Cap: Geneva, Cornwall and visitors from Australia!

What’s been happening this month? June has definitely been the busiest month of the year so far! The first weekend of the month started with a day trip to Upnor Castle and Whitstable. I was a little disappointed with Whitstable to be honest, not sure if I just missed the best parts but I didn’t enjoy it as much as some of the other seaside towns I’ve visited in the UK...

Skiing in Switzerland had been on my bucket list long before I moved to the UK. In December 2013 I spent a week out in St Moritz, one of the world’s most famous ski resorts. On this occasion we stayed with Kulm Hotel and we invited to a private ski night on the evening of our arrival along with other guests at the hotel. This night ski took place on Corvatsch mountain, a short drive out of town...

Scenic Helicopter Tour Over St Moritz, Switzerland

9 March 2015
image from Scenic Helicopter Tour Over St Moritz, Switzerland

During our recent ski trip in the Engadin mountains in Switzerland, our accommodation package with Nira Alpina included a 20 minute scenic helicopter tour of the area. Unfortunately the weather turned a bit grey on the afternoon of our flight but we still enjoyed it immensely. Our flight started over St Moritz before flying over the mountains, getting up close and personal with a glacier before looping back around over Surlej and Silvaplana and returning to where we started...

Looking Back: 2014 in Retrospect

image from Looking Back: 2014 in Retrospect

At first I wasn’t sure if I would write this post, as I felt like I cut back on traveling a little this year (mostly to do with the amount of time and money I had to invest in getting a new UK visa). But as I started looking back on blog posts and travel photos I was pleasantly surprised to see that I’d still managed to take quite a few trips...

A Brief Stay in Basel

Anyone who has known me for a while is probably aware of my slight obsession with Switzerland. Before my first visit to Europe it was the country I wanted to visit the most, besides the UK. And seeing it in person did not disappoint. I stayed in Lucerne during that first visit and it instantly became one of my favourite cities in the world. I was determined to see more of Switzerland when I moved to London...

2013: A Look Back

23 March 2014

January Rang in the New Year in Russia! Certainly an interesting place to visit. Seeing St Basil’s Cathedral in Red Square was definitely a highlight, although not at all what I was expecting on the inside! January also saw a weekend trip to Barcelona that fell on Australia Day. After a brief visit in July 2012, it was good to get a chance to go back and experience this city properly...
