I was recently nominated to answer a few questions in a Sisterhood of the World Bloggers post by Kelly from Around the World in 80 Pairs of Shoes. Definitely check out her blog if you haven’t already, she is one of the funniest bloggers out there and she shares my love of travel, stately homes and cake.

Let’s get in to the answers…

Where is your all-time favourite destination?

A few years ago I probably would have said London but now that I’ve lived here for 3 years it doesn’t really feel like a holiday destination anymore. It’s difficult to choose as I’ve been to so many beautiful places but Switzerland will always have a special place in my heart. The scenery is breathtaking and I love the fresh mountain air. And of course, they make the best chocolate in the world.

Which post are you most proud of?

By far my most viewed post is the one I wrote about getting a UK Tier 2 visa and I’m happy that so many people have found it useful. I still get questions and emails about it regularly even though it was written over a year ago. When I was going through the application process I wished I’d had found something like this to answer some of the questions I had but I’m glad that I’m now able to provide that help to others in the same situation.

Who would you invite to your dream dinner party, alive or dead?

Tina Fey for the lols. Stephen Fry for great conversation and because I could listen to him for hours. Martina Hingis because she is someone I’ve always admired. J.K Rowling because she’s a great storyteller. Anne Frank because it would be amazing for her to see how her diary has become one of the most widely read books in the world.

Do you have a favourite travel app?

I love CityMapper for finding my way around and planning journeys in a city! I started out using it because it’s great for navigating London but its now available in loads of different cities including Paris, Rome, Barcelona, and New York.

What’s your favourite and least favourite thing about blogging?

My favourite thing about blogging is finding people who have interests and aspirations almost identical to my own. Blogs are also fantastic for finding tips on things to do in London and everywhere around the world.

My least favourite thing is the sense of entitlement some bloggers have in regards to getting things for free, and having to figure out whether someone’s opinion is genuine or whether they’re just being paid to promote something.

Is there anything you like to do any time you visit somewhere new?

My favourite thing when I arrive somewhere new is to find a spot where I can get a birds eye view over the city. I think I’ve done this in pretty much every city I’ve been to!

Where is somewhere you’ve been or something you did that you didn’t expect much of, but ended up loving?

Iceland. I travelled there with a friend a couple of years ago, it was mainly her idea and I was happy to go along but I didn’t really have high expectations of the country. It turned out to be one of the most beautiful places I’ve been and I would love to go back again! I’ve written a post about my trip to Iceland if you want to read more about it.

What’s your pet peeve?

People who stand in the doorway of the train when people are trying to get off, or people on the platform who try to get on the train before letting other passengers off first. People who don’t stand on the right of the escalator. People who hog the footpath and walk slowly or just stand in everyone’s way and don’t move over to let other people past. I’m a very grumpy London commuter!

What’s your most treasured possession?

My camera - I’ve been really into photography since I bought my first DSLR about 5 years ago. I never go away without bringing my camera with me.

I’m nominating a few more bloggers to take part:

  • My sister Cassie, who recently started a blog called Adventure Cass all about travel, Sydney life and trail running.
  • Jaime from Angloyankophile - I love Jaime’s style, her posts are always so well-written and beautifully photographed.
  • Kasha from Lines of Escape - we seem to have very similar tastes in holiday destinations and have each taken trips to the same places multiple times this year!
  • Anyone else who wants to join in!

Here are the questions I want you to answer:

  • What 3 words describe you best?
  • What do you love most about where you live?
  • What’s the most obscure thing you’ve seen abroad?
  • Is there any destination you found disappointing or underwhelming when you visited it?
  • What is your favourite dessert?
  • What destination is at the top of your wish list?
  • What’s your favourite book?
  • Assuming money was not an issue, what is one thing you’re dying to do?
  • What’s your best travel tip?
