I saw this tag a while ago on Essie Button’s YouTube channel and thought it would be fun to do. I love to hear travel stories from other people and find out where their favourite destinations are so I can get inspiration for my own travels.

The Questions:

Your most treasured passport stamp?

It would have to be the stamp I got when I flew into London to mark the start of my visa. For the first time ever I would be able to stay in London and not have to return back to Australia a few weeks later.

Can you recite your passport # from memory if asked?

I definitely can, as well as the expiry date. When I first moved to London I had to recite my passport number a lot on various forms, and I also have to fill it out on the landing card whenever I come back to the UK after a trip so it is firmly cemented in my brain.

Preferred method of travel: planes, trains or automobiles?

It depends on how fair I’m travelling. For shorter journeys I prefer trains, but I get bored after about 4 hours. So anything longer than that I’ll take a flight. I rarely do journeys by car unless I’m going somewhere that isn’t easily accessible by other modes of transport. The UK is the only place outside of Australia that I have driven a car because they still drive on the left!

Top 3 travel items?

  • Bose QuietComfort 15s - I can’t catch a flight without noise cancelling headphones
  • Canon 550D - My DSLR goes with me everywhere
  • Travel wallet - To keep my passport, tickets and itineraries organised

Hostel or hotel?

Definitely hotels. I’ve had bad experiences before when staying in hostels as a solo traveller so I always avoid them now. I need my privacy and a good night’s sleep! It’s not too difficult to find reasonably priced hotels. I would probably only consider staying in a hostel again if it was a private room, or if I was only sharing the room with friends.

Are you a repeat visitor or do you explore new places?

A bit of both. I love exploring new places but sometimes there just isn’t enough time to see everything in a city on your first visit (as an example, I’ve been to Paris four times now but I’ve stayed in a different part of the city each time)

Do you read up on your destination (culture, history, safety) or do you wing it?

I always read up on things to do before I go. I like to make the most of every place I visit and would hate to come home and then see photos of something I’d missed out on because I didn’t know it existed!

Favourite travel website?

At the moment I am loving World Of Wanderlust for travel inspiration.

Where would you recommend a friend to visit? Name city & why.

There are so many places I could recommend but one that comes to mind is Lisbon, Portugal. It’s not a typical European tourist destination but its a charming city. I didn’t have high expectations before I went there but ended up falling in love with Lisbon.

You’re leaving tomorrow, money is no option, where are you going?

I’d pack up my things, see the parts of Europe I haven’t made it to yet, Africa, Asia and the Americas. Just keep on wandering…

Now its your turn. If you’ve done this tag please leave a link in the comments below, I’d love to read them.
